Pictured: W himsical mirrors by Italian brand Portego. Being able to bring together Italian craftsmanship and taste became a passion as early as high school, where I studied sculpture and ceramics.

After my daughter was born, I decided to go into business for myself. Pictured: Noshi's origami-inspired gold necklace. Artemest was born from my desire to save Italian craftsmanship from extinction. So I toured the country and recruited as many wonderful artisans as I could. Because I started by myself in my living room, I was always hyper-aware of how important it is to deliver. The product has to be perfect because you are doing a very expensive and beautiful thing.

All of these business efforts only matter if the product is amazing so I grew at a rate where I felt I could control that. Whole new problems have cropped up, like what does it mean and what does it look like to be a luxury brand on the internet? What should it look like?

I believe the China ones were specifically made for outlet styles, hopefully the main line ones are still manufactured in Italy and higher quality.

The jewelry designer and founder of Italian artisan retail website Artemest knew she needed a place to think and create away from the workshop. Her respect and passion for artisans and their craft are a thread through both of her interests. Things are picking up there. Some artisans have continued to work, because they live and work in the same place. Here, she shares some of the incredible details that keep her creative while she works from home.

Having the light directly above is not ideal; instead, I have the tables aligned in the center of the room.
