This means that with the VR series, you can get classic Vox sounding cleans, as well as British crunch and more contemporary higher gain sounds. With VX12 Celestion speakers, these amps sound fantastic; they have an elegant simplicity that makes them incredibly easy to use. The Vox AC30 is one of the most famous amps ever to be produced, with its 15 watt counterpart offering the same great sound, with a lower output.
Recent years have seen the release of smaller models — the AC10 and even the AC4. I could go on all day about how good these are, but glancing at a list of bands and artists who have used a Vox AC30 or AC15 should do it for me! The Vox Handwired series sits at the top of the Vox range and offers everything that the regular AC range has to offer, plus more.
Are Bluebacks better than Greenbacks or vice versa? A lot of the classic rock players like the Greenbacks because of how they sound when the amp is overdriven. Both types of speaker suit the amp brilliantly, they just add a slightly different flavour to the sound. Hopefully this has shed a little more light on the whole Vox series and has pointed you in the right direction of which Vox amp to go for. How loud is it? JavaScript is disabled. Buying a used Vox AC30 - which one? Thread starter cowbellfever Start date Feb 15, Messages Hi, I'm in the market for a used Vox AC I've been a Fender and Marshall guy for 20 years now. Wanted to ask if there are any AC30 versions I should stay clear of? Do people mod them? What speakers are the most preferred? Do people generally run them loud? Some have 4 inputs others have 2? If you gig with your AC30 how do you run it?
Any insight will be appreciated. Meriphew Member. Messages 8, Axe-Man Member. Messages 7, The AC30C2 is popular with Greenbacks.
Great balance of features, price and solid enough build no one complains about reliability issues. Spring verb and trem are reportedly quite decent though no one says the FX loop is good. The two downsides are the weight and volume to get it cooking. But damn do they sound great cooking. The heads are also good. The current spec ones come with a reactive load for quieter home play.
Vox amps and hard rock is something more people need to explore. Excellent compressed leads and soaring tones. I think they are can be Marshall like for hard rock but they have their own thing going.
Just add a boost. Beautiful cleans naturally. Messages 3, You'll get some people with very strong opinions about this. I've played through most of the versions and they're all "voxy". I think they sound very "vox'y" have tremolo and reverb and are available pretty cheaply used.
In fact you could probably by the head as a spare very cheaply over there. I know because I owned both for quite awhile and back to backed them prior to selling off the blue X model. This is directly opposite the internet truth or fact where the wharfedale is rubbished but is my actual experience.
I am lead to believe the later model with a different circuit and the greenback speaker is better built but after the initial honeymoon period I have seen a few people mention they prefer the sound of the cc over the next generation greenback model.
I think this is a circuit related difference as some of those people were using the blue speaker. I can not imagine playing with any other amp as it cuts through beautifully, has lovely cleans and can crunch and distort in a really nice way. I think it enters Fender clean territory, though it is it's own sound and can crunch like a good marshal, though once again is it's own sound.
I have had both Wharfedale and Celestion blue combo's and the head version. Age: 61 Posts: 7, I can attest to what Mad Kiwi said. I have a CC2 and a C2. To me, they are both built very well and have been very reliable. I also prefer the tone of the older CC2 with the Wharfedale speakers. They both have that el84 sound and dynamic which I love but to me the CC2 does have slightly better tone. It seems like i'm not the lone crazy CC lover as much I was starting to worry about! Thanks JWP2, C2 is the newer model.
I couldn't remember the code description while I was typing my novel above. Oh and due to an accident with Wharfedale speaker cab, the video above is Gretsch in to Ac30 cch h is for head, cc is the model crate vintage 50 which is used as the speaker cab and spare amp in emergency also a lovely underrated amp with an attenuator of some sorts that has 2 x 6db reduction switches.
Both were "on". Mad Kiwi, you guys sounded great in that video! I could hear that vox jangle going on! Great song! Jul 13, Something else about the latest handwired model: They do sound a lot brighter than other Voxes! Like almost fizzy with overdrive sometimes. It takes some time to get used to. You could say they sound more direct and more brilliant or you could stick to "fizzy".
In case you were wondering about the price difference, not having a trem or verb and all Last edited: Jul 13, Thanks for all the great info! Any insight on the current production CC head? Reverb trem, wattage switch probably won't use , master volume, jump able channels, by passable effects loop. Seems like a decent package if they are built well. I own a very nice "boo-teek" version of an old AC30, made the way they were made back in the '60s.
